StinkyStars ("we," "us," or "our") operates StinkyStars (the "Service") at https://stinkystars.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: Name, email address, and password when you register.
- Profile information: Any additional details you add to your profile.
- Payment information: No paid features are currently offered. If we offer them later, we will update these terms before any purchase.
- Reviews and suggestions: Ratings, review text and issue reports you post, and bathrooms or changes you suggest. Reviews you post, including your first name and last initial, are visible to everyone.
- Communications: Messages you send us for support or feedback.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, time spent, and interactions with the Service.
- Device information: Browser type, operating system, IP address, and device identifiers.
- Precise location: If you allow it, we use your device's location to show nearby restrooms and plan trips. If you are signed in and submit a suggestion, the location you submit is stored with your account.
- Cookies and tracking: See Section 8 (Cookies).
2.3 Child-Related Data
We do not collect personally identifying information about children under 13.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Send transactional emails and account notifications.

4. How We Share Your Information

- Service providers: Google (Firebase hosting, database and sign-in) helps us operate the Service, as do error-monitoring and application-performance providers, which receive a user identifier and the page address (without query strings) when something goes wrong. Our authentication and email-delivery providers send account and security emails on our behalf. Our service providers are bound by terms that limit their use of your information to providing services to us.
- Map, address and routing services: To show maps, find addresses and plan routes we send your coordinates and IP address to OpenStreetMap Foundation tile and Nominatim geocoding servers and to an OSRM routing server. These are public services that handle your data under their own policies; they are not under contract with us.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as a business asset.
We share usage data with our analytics providers to understand how the site is used (see Section 8.1).
5. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: You may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete: You may request that we delete the personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.

Precise geolocation is sensitive personal information; we use it only to provide the location features you request.

6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Upon account deletion, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except where retention is required by law. Our service providers keep operational logs under their own schedules.
7. Data Security
We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:
- Keep you logged in to the Service.
- Remember your preferences.
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service.
8.1 Analytics Tools
We use the following analytics tools:
- Umami (self-hosted): Umami receives your IP address and device information to produce aggregate statistics and sets no cookies.
- Google Analytics (GA4): Collects pseudonymous usage data (a random client-ID cookie), including pages visited, session duration, and traffic sources. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Until September 2026 we also used Microsoft Clarity for session recordings and heatmaps; we no longer do.
8.2 Your Choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the Service. Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies specifically.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels for advertising purposes.
9. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your use of the Service constitutes consent to transfer your information to the United States.
11. Your Rights and Choices
You may:
- Access and update your account information through your account settings.
- Delete your account by contacting us at support@stinkystars.com. We will delete your data within 90 days.
- Opt out of marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
- Request a copy of your personal data by contacting us.
12. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@stinkystars.com and we will promptly delete it.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notification at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
